Gathering with Friends of Nigeria, our alumni group of Peace Corps volunteers who served in the country, is always fun. Clem and I drove to East Stroudsberg Pennsylvania for this year’s reunion.

We met at the Delaware Water Gap Country Club on Wednesday evening. Thursday was for our meeting,

Today, Friday, was the first of two days for Peace Corps Connect, the larger alumni group of Peace Corps volunteers. We only attended part of the morning and the lunch.

Then we drove back home, sitting in the Friday afternoon traffic for nearly an hour between the Connecticut state line and our home in Westport.

So you will get only a quick overview of the events and a few photos today. More news and pictures coming next time!

Peter Hansen and I were the founders of Friends of Nigeria. We agreed to put together the group at the same location where we were this morning, the Shawnee Inn in the Delaware Water Gap. I believe it was twenty years ago.

We had four speakers and a film – a full day. Gloria Chuku who organized the Biafra conference in Baltimore in April, was one. Iyabo Obasanjo was another one of the presenters.

Peace Corps Connect and Award

We got to the Peace Corps Connect event around 11 this morning. We heard the introduction of the Harris Wofford Award winner and his remarks.

He spoke at length about Peace Corps’ influence on his life, which he said was full of serendipitous events!

Melania Trump Going to Africa

This week came the announcement that Melania Trump will visit Africa. We don’t yet know which countries, unless the news came in the last couple of days when I was out of touch.

Race Conversation in Our Family

Last weekend our daughter Beth was here with her family. Kenechi came with his  girlfriend Mary. The conversation after dinner turned to race.

Clem got into a heated discussion with our grand-daughter Nkiru who said, “I’m proud to be an African-American.” Somehow that bothered him!

More to come!
