Chibok Girls, 10 Years, Too Long!

Boko Haram is still at its old tactics. In recent weeks, the terrorist group held two major kidnappings. One was in the same state as Chibok where Boko Haram took 100 children. The other was in Kaduna where they captured 130 children.

“Kidnapping for ransom is still a favoured tactic to raise funds,” parents and others have said. This led many parents and other friends to raise money to pay the kidnappers.

Since its April 2014 kidnapping of children from the Chibok school, it still held nearly 100 girls, now young women, in their grip. Some parents say the remaining girls now number about 80, given that a few have died.

One father said he thinks of his daughter every day. Other parents do the same.

Grace, now studying media at the American University in Nigeria, says she thinks of her friend who is still with Boko Haram. She says she thinks of her daily wondering how she is living and whom she is living with.

I wonder if the 10-year-old kidnapping could be resurrected now. But I don’t have hope for Nigeria’s messed up system. The government could not even offer a response to this piece.
