Church Service but Rampant Disease

#EndSARS

When the Buhari government asked its people to abandon #EndSARS, it didn’t count on the widespread support #EndSARS had received. The news had spread around the country. There was no leader for the #EndSARS commitment. It just seemed to grow out of the air.

Yet today the movement is fading. There is no leader trying to persuade people to pay attention to #EndSARS. The #EndSARS attention appears to be waning.

The Ohaneze Story

Igbo leaders

Igbo leaders discussing the upcoming election

Another story about the political landscape today is saying that the Ohaneze, a socio-cultural group, will undertake a survey of the Igbo people.

Currently they are tackling their own questions in the interim.

“At the appropriate time, we would expect Ohaneze to do a detailed and objective study of the political landscape in Nigeria and advise Ndigbo (the Igbo people) on what they believe is best for them,” one of the speakers said.

How does the Ohaneze know what is best for the Igbo people? Hmm.

Speaking in Maiduguri

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has said that the future for the children of the camp is assured. Despite their thinking today, he promised them a better future.

Receiving support

Children being told to take leadership.

He should know! Mr. Maulid Warfa, the Field Officer for UNICEF, said he suffered the same deprivations.

“He said as a victim of violence and kidnap, the road to his education initially appeared gloomy but he kept his hope alive and has a story to tell today.”

Warfa recalled his experiences growing up. He was held by insurgents who did not allow him to attend school, living in an IDP camp.

He did become independent and with a livelihood that is the envy of many!

“He said UNICEF with collaboration from partners, was supporting over a million children in remote learning on radio and television in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.” He remarked that this was different from his experience growing up when there was no distance learning.

The Borno Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, urged the children to see themselves as future leaders despite their confinement today.

I’m sure, though, it is hard to see oneself as a future leader! The children, some of whom are orphans or with just one parent supporting them, are sometimes left wondering where their next meal will come from.

Buhari on TB

Buhari on TB

Buhari on TB and its prevention

President Buhari is paying attention to TB, another major story today. Last week he addressed a meeting of the “Global Stop TB Partnership.” He announced a joint effort with other leaders of this effort to put an end to this partnership.

“The reversal of Nigeria’s difficult health indices remains a top priority of this administration, including the gap in TB case detection, fueled partly by the dearth of acceptable, accessible, affordable and patient centered basic health facilities,’’ the President said.

He said the Primary Health Care (PHC) revitalization program, to ensure quality basic health care, is ongoing. The “Nigerian Government was also implementing the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, prescribed by the National Health Act.” This is supposed to bridge the gap in health care financing.

I believe it’s safe to assume these funds will help support TB services.

Thanksgiving Service at Church

We had a lovely service at church today. It was the Thanksgiving Day service, with Rev. John being eloquent as usual.

He advised us all to say Thank You to all the people who help out in our daily lives.

Particularly worth mentioning are the teachers. They do diligent work at home and at school, preparing lessons for the children in their care.

And of course not to neglect the parents! I think of Kelvin working at home and going out for his daily tasks, while still keeping a distant eye on Ikem. Beth will be home soon to help out too!

Meanwhile she’s getting our house ready for the market! I’m in my new flat in Norwalk, cheering her on and helping out a tiny bit!

Buy My Book

My books are getting rusty – no presentations today! Would you like to buy a book? Either one or both? I’ll sell them both for $20 for the next week!
