Americanah – My family connection

Yesterday I told you I would reveal my family connection to the book Americanah, by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Here it is.

If you were to look in the acknowledgements, you would see that Chimamanda says, “Three lovely people gave so much of their time and wisdom to this book . . ” and the third person she names is my older son, Chinakueze Onyemelukwe!

In fact I saw the manuscript of the book before it was published in my son’s house, which is also my house when I’m in Nigeria. And when the same named son came for Christmas at the end of 2013, he brought me a signed copy with a note from Chimamanda. I was thrilled and took the signed book to both book groups where we discussed the novel.

Have you read Americanah or either of Adichie’s other two novels, Half of a Yellow Sun, and Purple Hibiscus?
