First Pics from 50th Wedding Anniversary

Our 50th wedding anniversary party was fabulous! I just couldn’t wait another eight days to share a few pictures with you!

Today is Afo, my posting day. I’ll be flying on the next Afo, so it will probably be two market weeks, or eight days, before I post again.

These men from a royal family in Nanka are carrying a crate of wine and a long knotted rope. The rope is to signify that they are giving us a gift of a cow.

In the next picture I’m holding the rope as we thank them.

The cow had already been cooked. They delivered it a day ahead and we sent it on to the caterers.

This is the usual practice for events like this. Caterers are new in the last 15-20 years, but sending the cow ahead of time is normal. It used to be the in-law women, women married into the family, who would do the cooking for such a celebration.

Dr. Dozie Ikedife gave the toast to the groom at our wedding fifty years ago!

We were so happy that he could come to be the chairman for the anniversary celebration. Dozie holds the title of Ikenga of Nnewi, his town. He has built and continues to run a hospital there.

We were entertained by dancers – you can see the first group of dancers entering our compound.

Our son-in-law Kelvin posted this picture of his family on Facebook as soon as we were back in Lagos and had internet connectivity.  More pictures to come!
