“Outstanding book.” “The author captured the experience of non-American blacks so well.” “The blog as a vehicle was an excellent literary device.” “The characters were so well-drawn; I didn’t want to say goodbye to them at the end.”
All six of us at the Baker’s Dozen book group tonight were enthusiastic about Americanah, Chimamanda Ngozi
Adichie’s latest novel that was just awarded the National Book Critics Award for 2013. Have you read it?
I get a second chance to discuss it next week at another book club I belong to, of Mount Holyoke alumnae who live in the area. Being the expert on Nigeria is always fun. I love sharing what I know about a country that feels like home to me. I can tell people how to pronounce the Igbo names, and usually I know what they mean too.
I like the Guardian’s review of Americanah. It is thorough and thoughtful.
